D23 filled the hearts of Kingdom Hearts fans with hope as a release window for Kingdom Hearts IV and an animated series were revealed

It started with a glimmer as eagle eyed folks saw banners featuring Sora and Micky being hung around the Anaheim Convention Center, the location of this year’s D23, the convention for the Disney faithful. That spark became smoldering fire when the convention announced that their programming schedule would include a panel dubbed “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts Panel” However an unexpected catalyst was added to the mix when during the Disney Entertainment Showcase, tagging along the announcement of Coco 2 was the reveal that the World of Coco would be explorable in the Kingdom Hearts IV!

Finally a raging infer(ok, ok…I’m done with the fire related analogies), at the Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel we learned that Kingdom Hearts IV will have a 2027 release window and not only will you be able to play as Sora, but you will be able to take control of King Mickey, Goofy and Donald as the trio continue their quest to reunite with their missing friend.

What completely shocked the fanbase was the announcement that an animated series tentatively titled “Kingdom Hearts Animated Series” has been greenlit for the Disney+ streaming platform and Disney Channel. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura and the team at Square Enix will have a hand in the production of this series and promises to expand this world that has captivated people all around the world for nearly 30 years.

Kingdom Hearts IV will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (hopefully before the disc apocalypse) in late 2027.

Kingdom Hearts the Animated Series currently does not have a release window.
