Here’s some of the things announced during the Sonic the Hedgehog 35th Birthday Livestream

Sonic the Hedgehog Birthday Livestream was quite the marathon event as it clocked in at roughly five and a half hours. It also had plenty of well-wishers such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and even fellow azure gaming icon Mega Man (Sadly no plumbers sent birthday wishes…). Despite the fun and games, the livestream also revealed some upcoming appearances and initiatives involving the brand, including new game titles, compilations, DLC, concerts, and an ARG promoting an in-person event set for early October.

Here’s the Breakdown of some of the announcements revealed:

Games/DLC

• Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2
  • Fans were treated to a shadow-drop of the popular 2022 open-zone adventure, Sonic Frontiers – Definitive Edition. It includes the base game and all updates with improved performance. Now available.

• Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Patch Update + Free Characters
  • Patch 4 includes Classic Sonic as a free character. Axel and Amigo arrive in Aug/Sep 2026. TMNT DLC launches July 29, 2026.

• SONIC PICO PARK Gameplay and New Characters
  • Shadow and Sonic Pico Cat join Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy as playable characters later this year.
• Sonic the Hedgehog 35th Anniversary Project
  • A lineup of collections and legacy releases celebrating 35 years of Sonic.
• Classic Sonic Collection
  • Includes Sonic Origins, Sonic Mania, and Sonic Superstars. Launches October 2026 ($49.99 USD).
• Modern Sonic Collection
  • Includes Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Colors: Ultimate, and Sonic Forces. Launches October 2026 ($49.99 USD).
• Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2: Legacy Cartridge Collection
  • By iam8bit. Pre-order available June 23 ($99.99 USD each).

I know I’m gonna keep an eye on some of those in person events, specifically the Club Chaos Sonic 35th Celebration as well as the Sonic Live in Concert. I can also see myself dusting off the ol’ Nex Playground to check out Sonic Forces. Did anything amongst this massive announcement catch your eye? All I have to say is SEGA knows how to throw a party, a certain “rival” publisher/hardware developer can certainly take a page as to how to properly fete a beloved character!
