R-Type Dimensions III gets a new trailer and an unfortunate physical edition delay

R-Type Dimensions III, the stunning looking reimagined new title in IREM and Tozai Games’ R-Type shmup series, is due to hit digital storefronts in just a couple of weeks on May 19th, so ININ Games dropped off a new sneak peek trailer showing off the title.  That’s the good news.

The not-so-good news is that the physical editions of the title, including the $200 Collector’s Edition, have been delayed quite a bit, until later in year due to production issues.  The Special Edition physical edition slipped to August 11th, 2026, with the CE moving to an unspecified “winter 2026” at this time.  Interestingly, the detailed collectible figure that is included in the Collector’s Edition is now being crafted by Wētā Workshop, which seems like a big deal.  ININ has also announced that those who already pre-ordered the physical editions can request an early digital code as they wait for their copies.

For now, check out some new screens and product shots, the new trailer and additional details below.  R-Type Dimensions III is set to launch on the PS5, Switch/Switch 2 and PC.

R-Type Dimensions III launching on May 19! Here is another sneak peek (vol. 1)

ININ Games today announced an update regarding the release schedule of R-Type Dimensions III.

The highly anticipated title will launch digitally as planned on May 19, 2026, ensuring players worldwide can dive into the next evolution of the iconic shoot-’em-up franchise without delay.

Due to ongoing global manufacturing and logistics constraints, the physical edition will shift to August 11th, 2026. ININ Games emphasizes that this decision was made to maintain the highest production standards and product quality.

To thank the community for its continued support, pre-order customers will have the opportunity to request complimentary digital access keys, allowing them to start playing up to five days ahead of launch. Platform-specific conditions apply.

The Collector’s Edition has been moved to a winter 2026 release window to accommodate an upgraded production process. Notably, the collectible figure included in this edition is now being crafted by the world-renowned Wētā Workshop, promising a premium-quality centrepiece for fans and collectors.

Additionally, ININ Games highlights a key benefit for physical collectors: the retail version will include the latest game build on-disc/cartridge, eliminating the need for a Day One patch.

Despite current economic and supply chain challenges affecting the industry, ININ Games remains committed to delivering a high-quality experience that honors the legacy of the R-Type franchise while meeting modern expectations. For more information, please visit the official ININ Games store
