Demon’s Souls gets a new lease on life

Demon’s Souls, Atlus and From Software’s demonically difficult action RPG for the PS3, has found a bit more life after all.

After announcing that the online servers for the game would be shut down in the near future (a week from now), Atlus today announced that they have reversed course and will be keeping the game’s online functionality running for the foreseeable future. Yes!

Read on for the announcement and make sure to thank Atlus for going above and beyond to keep the game running.

ATLUS, the video game brand of Index Digital Media, Inc., today announced an extension of the North American online servers for Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the “Greatest Hits” hardcore multiplayer action RPG hailed as GameSpot’s 2009 Game of the Year. Originally scheduled to be shut down at the end of the final hour of May 31, 2012, the servers will now continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon’s Souls online experience will persist for a while longer,” stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales. “While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls. For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game’s amazing online experience, we’re happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon’s Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time.”

ATLUS did not rule out the possibility of future extensions of the North American servers, provided user activity and interest remain constant.

Demon’s Souls is out now at $19.99 MSRP for PlayStation 3 system as part of its prestigious “Greatest Hits” library. For more information, visit the game’s official website (www.demons-souls.com).
