Amazon Instant Video launching for PS3 today

Starting today, Amazon Instant Video is launching for the PlayStation 3, and it’s about damn time that a gaming console can finally access Amazon’s growing library of free and paid video content.

The streaming app, which should just appear on your PS3’s XMB, provides Amazon members with access to 120,000 commercial-free movies and TV shows for rental or purchase. But that’s not the best part, users that are also Amazon Prime subscribers get free access to Amazon’s library of over 17,000 Prime Instant Videos. As a Prime subscriber, all I have to say is ‘hell yeah!’.

  • Whispersync lets customers seamlessly switch from one device to another. Start streaming a movie on Kindle Fire, then pick up right where you left off on your PS3 system – avoid the frustration of having to find your spot.
  • Your Video Library gives customers access to purchases from Amazon Instant Video on the PlayStation 3 system or any of the hundreds of other devices enabled for Amazon Instant Video. For a list of compatible devices click here.
