The May flowers might have wilted, but fret not June enjoyers as the fine folks at PlayStation is bringing games to start off the midpoint of 2026. State of Play is set to showcase titles from both 1st and 3rd parties, and the very first visuals we are greeted with is from Insomniac Games’ take on the iconic X-Man, Wolverine.
Marvel’s Wolverine Gameplay Premiere & Jean Grey Reveal
Creative Director Marcu Smith sets the stage as he describes the situation Logan is in as he has to rescue mutants who have been kidnapped by the mercenary group, the Reavers. Logan is in his often seen yellow suit as he appears to have discovered some red hair…which he uses to pick up the scent and gauge the direction where this mysterious entity is heading. From higher ground, he ascertains the situation and takes a flying leap and skewers a male Reaver with his adamantium claws. The hero is not a discriminatory killer as he follows up his first kill with a brutal disemboweling of a female Reaver…this game is certainly earning its M rating.
A pretty nice detail I noticed is Logan will get bloody from all the puncture wounds he will be doling out and after his third kill he is drenched with blood from head to toe. When he wades into a puddle a portion of the blood does get washed away. The gameplay continues on with the diminutive hero finding the truck transporting the kidnapped mutants (with a cameo from Leech of all mutants!). As a battle ensues, Wolverine sees an assailant tossed via telekinesis and we quickly cut to the person who did the throwing. It’s Jean Grey, and per our very own Brendan Reilly who best describes her as the protagonist from Remedy Games’ Control.
The duo work in synchronicity to put down reavers which are seeming to come out of the woodwork. We even see some team up attacks from the erstwhile lovers as the would-be kidnappers are handled with maximum aggression. In the fracas that ensues, the truck hauling the mutants takes off and I spy what could be Debra Wilson look-a-like sporting an eye patch who I suspect is the leader of the morlocks, Callisto amongst the capture. Our hero serendipitously finds a motorcycle and the chase is on.
The next sequence finds us witnessing our lead catching up the convoy despite massive resistance and Logan squaring off against a bulky enemy with an electrified bident. The foe manages to connect with several blows depleting our hero’s health which conveniently showcases his mutant healing factor. Once recovered mutant hero makes short work of his foe and gradually he makes his way to the truck with the captured mutants. Wolverine starts chatting with leech, telling the young mutant that he is here to free them, not before more vehicles arrive to impede his progress. Looking to draw the aggression away from the kidnapping victims, Logan leaps back into the fray before we are treated with the title card of the game, closing out this extended gameplay footage.
We get a montage of what we can expect from the game and from those with eagle eyes you can spot the following characters locations and factions, Patch, Omega Red, Mystique, Madripoor, Sentinels, The Hand, and Sabretooth. The clip also reveals the game’s release date which will be September 15th 2026. Pre-orders are available now.
MARVEL Tokon Fighting Souls Rosters Expanded
Sid Shuman then greets us as well as gives us the lay of the land for today’s programming, but his time is short as we quickly transition to another title featuring Wolverine…the team based fighting fame MARVEL Tokon Fighting Souls. We get a look at the mastermind behind the tournament and we get the reveal of one of the two remaining teams, one which will be led by Victor Von Doom…which are aptly named the Knights of Doom. Doom was one of the first characters we learned will be playable, but today we are informed as to who will have to honor to give voice to the Latverian Ruler and it’s none other than Sungwon Cho.
Joining him is the Master of Magnetism himself, Magneto who is portrayed by James Arnold Taylor, a man who is no stranger to the Malcolm X of the mutant world having portrayed the character multiple times including in MARVEL Rivals. The third member of this seemingly villainous team is one who has done much harm to Spider-Man in the past…it’s the Green Goblin! Veteran voice actor Steve Blum actually steps out of his usually gravelly vocal range to portray this cackling mad man. Closing out the team is another member of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery and it’s none other than Cletus Kasady, best known as the host of the symbiote Carnage. Kellen Goff, another voice actor with a long resume will be portraying this psychopath..it will be interesting to see how he is able to work in a team format. We get some new key art and surprisingly do not get a tease of the characters who will be joining ghost rider as we pivot to the next reveal.
Classic Revivals & Fresh Prequels: Rayman and MintRocket
Rayman Legends is getting a remake and it’s being called Rayman Legends Retold. This is the fifth entry of the Rayman franchise and was originally released in 2013 and this remake is set for an October 1st release.
We then follow up with another brand new title reveal as we are treated to a trailer from MintRocket. The creators of Dave the Diver are looking to give gamers a deeper look into the origins of Bancho. Inspired by Japanese cuisine this prequel will follow the bespectacled chef as he rises through the ranks and perhaps how he formed Bancho Sushi. Bancho The Chef is currently in development and can be wishlisted on select platforms.
Action & Survival Horror: Kemuri, Tomb Raider, and The Lost Wild
Looks like we’re staying in Japan or at least an approximation as we see stylish yokai hunters doing their thing. This currently unnamed title will feature up to 3 players co-op and will offer you the abilities of defeated yokai in the form of garments you can wear. The trailer closes out with the game’s title, Kemuri and we learn the development studio is none other than UNSEEN Inc., the studio that is spearheaded by Ikumi Nakamura. She proceeds to reintroduce herself and gives us a summary of what players can expect from Kemuri which will release in 2027.
From one recognizable woman in gaming to another, the next trailer is for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Pre-orders of this title will offer the Survivor Outfit from the trilogy which was released during the 2010s and 48 hour early access if you pre-order the deluxe or collectors edition. So players will be able to embark on this adventure on February 10th 2027 while everyone else will get to the starting line on February 12th, 2027.
We’re going to speed through the next couple of reveals which includes a “cinematic evasion-based survival horror experience”. What are you evading exactly? Dinosaurs! The title of this game? The Lost Wild! When is it coming out? 2027. Phantom Blade 0 gets another action packed trailer with a trio fighting over a baby. With a masked swordsman being the last man standing. We are informed that a full trailer and pre-order launch will drop this Summer and a Gameplay & Story Deep Dive stream will debut later in Summer.
A Packed Autumn 2026 Lineup
Rocking her best Velma Dinkley fit, Shawne Benson of the Global Third Party Portfolio group sets up the next batch of reveals and trailers. First is Dune: Awakening, which is currently available on PC. The console launch will feature a brand new base building mode and the game is set for a September 22nd, 2026 release. Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered will be coming to the platform on October 1st 2026 and will feature additional content featuring the protagonist of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Ziluan.
No Rest for the Wicked closes out its early access phase as it will release on the PlayStation 5 on October 26, 2026. Players of the Early Access version of the title can move their progress from PC to PlayStation 5 as the game supports cross-save and cross-play.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets a cinematic trailer, a release date of September 25th 2026 and a free demo. Between Wolverine, Onimusha and this next title, the back half of September will be a busy one as Silent Hill: Townfall reveals a September 24th 2026 release date.
More Details and Media for Ace Combat 8, Stuntman and Control: Resonant
Bandai Namco gives us a new trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and reveals that those who pre-order the title can experience Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War when it releases on October 2nd 2026 with an early access date of September 29th for select SKUs.
This next trailer from Saber threw me for a loop as it features cars speeding into dangerous situations…however the trailer gets crazier as we see some recognizable cars such as K.I.T.T., and the Delorean. We learn that this is the new iteration of Stuntman…Stuntman: Hollywood.
The next title will probably be in the wheelhouse of our more horror enthused editors such as Benny, it’s Ill from Team Clout. He’ll have to wait til 2027…but I doubt anyone will try to put their name to review it. Control: Resonant probably should’ve been in the previous block of trailers since it also has the late September release date, specifically the same date as Silent Hill: Townfall, September 24th, 2026. Marathon’s 2nd season kicks off on June 2nd and will offer players a free trial from June 2nd to June 9th and discounts for those who want to pick up the full game.
PlayStation Plus Additions & Until Dawn 2
The Global Content Communications Team’s Kristen Zitani walks us through what’s coming the the PlayStation Plus service, which includes Runescape: Dragonwilds, Gitaroo Man, Psi-Ops: the Mind Gate Conspiracy, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.
Another world premiere comes from Firesprite who is working on Until Dawn 2, where a group of content creators who fake paranormal sightings get to experience the real deal with possibly dangerous results!
God of War Laufey Revealed
Sid Shuman returns to close out the program by introducing a 20 minute segment which will debut the next title from Sony Santa Monica. The rumored title featuring the adventures of Kratos’ deceased wife Freya is indeed real and we see her making friends with a gelatinous cube and a talking ribbon (I shit you not…) in God of War Laufey. The combat looks like the work of Sony Santa Monica for sure, but I can’t shake the fact that Freya sort of looks a lot like horror directors Jen and Syliva Soska. Perhaps with this game coming in the foreseeable future, I should finally start the Norse Era of this franchise so I can be part of the conversation…or maybe not.
And That’s It!
That concludes this June edition of State of Play, we definitely got some good reveals and I’m certainly looking forward to the discourse that will come from some of the titles that were revealed today. In closing, I hope your calendar is cleared in September, because if you love gaming it’ll be a busy time!
