Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone start Season 1 this Friday

This Friday, November 6, will be the beginning of Season one of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Likewise, this will be Season 1 (again) for Warzone as well, which brings the Modern Warfare 4 guns and gameplay systems to Warzone. Among all the new content, Warzone will be seeing the usual yearly overhaul with a full integration of Modern Warfare 4’s mechanics and a level reset to account for a fresh year. Considering they also just recently added the ability to disable operator skins in Warzone to show only the base characters, now’s going to be a great time for anyone to start playing for the first time (or again, for those that have been a while).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 season one is likely to be a bit of a shock for the Warzone community, who has gotten acclimated to two years of omni-movement. There’s not been an official statement I could find on the idea of whether or not omni-movement is actually going away in Warzone, but… I assume like usual, we will see Warzone become the current game’s full handling. Modern Warfare 4 is no less fast paced, though, and the removal of the wall kick is likewise no major loss as Infinity Ward has become increasingly vertical over the years in their handling. Climbing ability is strong in Modern Warfare 4, and the new Warzone map (which is the current DMZ map), Hajin, is setup just right to handle this new movement style. The headline image for this article is the Modern Warfare 4 season 1 infographic, but there’s also one for Warzone in particular.

Wanna see it? Here you go:

With the Modern Warfare integration, Warzone will be seeing a lot of new elements being either added or brought back from before the Black Ops 6 & 7 era. Surveillance towers litter Hajin, giving you intel on the surrounding area to help you sniff out enemy players and NPCs alike. Interactive objects give you rolling cover to cross ground without taking hits. Aerial assassinations will make you think you’re back in Halo 3. Tac-sprint will have you moving faster than ever (forward only, of course; like I said probably no more omni-movement). Resurgence island fills the gap between Battle Royale and Multiplayer. Basically… there’s a lot to see, do, and learn.

Beyond what’s coming to Warzone, being essentially the entire game of Modern Warfare 4, what’s new for those of us who have already been in the game? DMZ and Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer will also be seeing new content. New guns, the arrival of the Battlepass, new maps, and new story content for DMZ will keep you occupied for as long as you can keep your eyes open in a day. The Cronen Osprey AR and the CSG-35 SMG both come right away on Friday with Season 1. Later in the season, two more weapons will be added as well; being the ZLR Talonhawk throwing axe and the JAK 12 Shotgun.

A standard 100-tier battle pass contains tons of new bits to collect across the months that Season 1 will be running. Operator skins, weapon blueprints, finishing moves, calling cards, and emotes are among the lineup of what to expect. Of course as usual, the guns are free to everyone, but the unlocks with the real flair are all locked behind the Blackcell battlepass for anyone who wants to pay. Also added this time around is a new system to combat at least some degree of the FOMO most associate with any battlepass. Anyone who falls behind for any reason will not need to worry, as the new system guarantees at least 50 levels to anyone who pays. These tiers are rewarded on a one-per-day basis, equal to the number of days since the season began. Essentially, if you are not up to tier 10 by day 10, you will still be given the rewards for the first 10 tiers.

A generously high offering of (they say more than) 6 maps will also be coming with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s season 1. Fan favorite Shoot house is returning right away on launch alongside two new maps: Canyon and Backstab. Mid-season, we will also see the new Ministry and Overflow maps alongside an ambiguous “Additional [CLASSIFIED] maps”. What that means is anyone’s guess, but what it definitely means is that they’ve got you on the hook by your curiosity. Kill Block (the map, not the mode) will also be having an update to include respawn modes.

DMZ will be seeing an expansion by way of the opening of X01: a former Russian facility now occupied by North Korean forces. A vast underground network of tunnels, labs, vehicle bays, production lines, and more hide among the maze that will likely be where you find your death by way of another player who is more determined than yourself. A sealed vault sits deep within, holding high value loot for you to take home. New orders are available from Ghost to help guide you deeper into X01. The last bit of information on DMZ that’s given is that they’re including [CLASSIFIED] new equipment only into DMZ, so I guess it’s a wait to see kind of week on that one.

There’s lots to do even for those of us with several dozen hours into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 already, so with this new catalog of things to work through, I doubt anyone enjoying themselves is going to be done with Modern Warfare 4 any time soon. Make sure to check out the update on Friday, November 6th. Also be sure to check out the Call of Duty blogs on both Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 and Warzone Season 1 for a full dump of all topics.
