While I appreciate the sentiment of the events, I find myself increasingly too busy to give more than one or two demos a try, so these recaps are a great way to see what’s popular and a gauge as to what trends are coming in the horizon. A cursory look at the top five shows that indie titles dominate with very asian-coded co-op titles scoring the most unique players of the event. The second most played title seems like an iteration of Papers Please set in a cyberpunk world. Find the Needle, is likely to appeal to the crowd that enjoys games like Factorio and Fart Together is what the kids call “Friendslop”.
Going through the entire list I can probably count on one hand the number of titles that I’ve wishlisted, those include Nekome Nazi Hunter, ReBlade: The Death Spiral, and Warhammer Survivors. I did manage to try two games that made it to the the top 50, those are Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered and Slam Tank, the latter of which I expected would’ve ranked higher…but hey making the list is an achievement on its own. Also it wouldn’t be a Steam Next Fest if some adult games didn’t sneak onto the list, Peeping Office Worker and very soon to be released (We’re talking tomorrow!) Project Exhibitionist are the games you probably don’t want to play in polite company.
Hopefully when the next Next Fest takes place in February of 2027, I’ll be a bit more engaged with the event. Lord knows I’m sure there are games that didn’t make this top 50 that would be worth checking out, but it just wasn’t in the cards. So did you dear reader check out the October 2026 Edition of Next Fest and if you did what games did you think is worth checking out?
