Get a “Photo-Appa” and check out Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game during New York Comic Con

The Avatar franchise (The element benders…not the blue cat aliens) still has plenty of cache with fans of pop culture as panels featuring the IP are more or less packed even before New York Comic Con begins. So it’s good to know Avatar fans will have another means of interacting with the franchise this week when Paramount Games Studio hosts an off-site event during the biggest pop culture show on the East Coast.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will be taking over OS NYC on Friday, October 9th to see who is the strongest bender in New York (There won’t actually be a residency check.). With a $1750 Prize Pool on the line, the organizers are inviting all comers to participate in a 64 person Double Elimination Tournament by DeAjah “yosenseii_” Lofton. For those who might not necessarily be a  bender or have taken a pacifistic vow, you still can have fun at the event.

OS NYC will be transformed to fit the world of the popular Nicktoon property and you can feast on delicacies from the Four Nations (as prepared by Potluck Club NYC). For those looking for an opportunity to capture something truly unique, there will also be a 10ft tall crocheted sculpture of Appa, Aang’s Sky Bison partner created by artist Shayla Palmer that will be available for photo opps, or as the PR team dubbed “Photo Appa”.

Those looking to get into the venue as a spectator can register via this link for those looking to claim glory and compete in the tournament, throw your hat in the ring via this link, but pray that a 1999 Honda Civic doesn’t roll up and run you all down. The tournament will be streamed on OS NYC’s Twitch Channel live on the day of the event.

If you prefer your activities closer to the convention, the game is also hosting a “Beat the Devs” event on October 8th at 459 Hudson River Greenway New York, NY 10014 (Which Google Maps seems to indicate it’s not as near the Javits Center as the press release states.). The gameplay will be projected onto a building, so your glory or your shame will be visible by the general public.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Switch. A native Switch 2 version will be coming out later this month.
