Corporate synergy makes the world go round as Crunchyroll teams with PlayStation to aid in anime discovery

What started as a guerrilla streaming platform, Crunchyroll eventually became legit and found itself being acquired by AT&T in 2014 and found itself joining the Sony family in 2021. Now the streaming platform will have a presence on Sony’s other major platform PlayStation.

Starting in Spring of 2027, PlayStation will be offering a space powered by Crunchyroll which will aid players in navigating the world of anime. When the acquisition occurred many folks have wondered if the streaming service will be integrated into the company’s gaming brand and while the former’s app was available on the latter’s platform, this move marks the blurring of the lines between both brands and hopefully Crunchyroll’s premium offerings will be available as part of the gaming platform’s PlayStation Plus service. It would only make sense as the PlayStation IP Ghost of Tsushima will be making its animated debut on Crunchyroll and you’d probably want to funnel those viewers to check out the game.

Only time will tell if this collaboration will pay off.
