The Hyperkin SupaBoy gets two new styles as its existing styles ride off into the sunset

The Hyperkin SupaBoy is getting a makeover and it looks like it’s gonna be permanent as the peripheral/repro hardware maker revealed that the handheld devices which can play Super Nintendo/Super Famicom will be shedding Grey/Purple and Black/Gold color schemes in order to return to “Prime” colors.

The SupaBoy Prime offers a translucent case with face buttons which mirror the 4 face color setup of the Japanese Super Famicom and European Super Nintendo. This will be the de facto colorway for the device for the foreseeable future. However Hyperkin is also planning to offer limited run colors annually and will kick off this line with the SupaBoy Crimson, which evokes the colors of the Japanese Famicom.

For those who are unaware, the SupaBoy is more or less a portable Super Nintendo with built in 4.3” screen, the ability to play original cartridges from any region (U/J/E) as well as the ability to connect to analog TVs (Sadly no hdmi port on this bad boy). It pretty much is the SNES equivalent of the SEGA Nomad. It’s certainly a nice device if you want to just pick up and play some SNES games.

The SupaBoy Crimson and SupaBoy Prime is available for pre-order directly on Hyperkin’s website at the price of $129.99 and is expected to ship sometime in late October 2026.
