Sign-ups are open now for Valve’s Steam Frame!

Hey there PC VR fans, or Virtual Reality gamers in general, Valve’s new SteamOS-powered, wireless VR headset hardware is now officially available (…to pre-order, if you can get one)!  Oh, and they also announced pricing, the line-up of accessories, video tutorials including a Quick Start Guide and Overview and all that as well. Oh, and not like we expected otherwise, but the Steam Frame includes Half-Life: Alyx.

The Steam Frame is built for wireless VR PC gaming, though it also supports stand alone play for a select number of titles, and non-VR gaming experiences as well.  As for pricing, the cheapest that gamers can jump in would be $1,059 for the 256GB model, with the 1TB model setting players back $1,299.

Even though it’s announced as available, Valve has a lottery system going for the Steam Frame hardware, so make sure to add yourself to the list before September 17th, and hope for the best.

Steam Frame, which includes Half-Life: Alyx, ships directly via Steam in the U.S., Canada, UK, EU, and Australia. Availability and pricing in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong will be announced by KOMODO at around 10:00 AM on the 15th JST.

How to get one:
We found the reservation system to be helpful with the launch of Steam Machine by improving the purchase experience and limiting resellers, and are implementing it once again for Steam Frame:

• Sign up anytime between now and Thursday, September 17^th at 10 a.m. Pacific for the model you’d like to purchase (Steam Frame 256GB or Steam Frame 1TB).
• Thursday September 17^th at 10 a.m. Pacific: Signups close, and we do a one-time randomization of that list.
  • Emails will go out later that day with the results of the randomization, letting you know if you’re in the reservation queue (the model you signed up for has been reserved in your name) or on the waitlist (your place in line is beyond the number of Steam Frames currently available for reservation, and we’ll notify you if you’re moved to the reservation queue).
• As units become available, people in the reservation queue will receive an email with the option to purchase, with the first batch of those starting September 18^th. We will continue to go through the reservation queue as units become available.
