Terranigma, the fabled Super Famicom Action RPG will finally see American shores thanks to Clear River Games!

It’s rare for American gamers to envy our European brethren…in fact I think I can count the number of times with just my own two hands. However it seems today during the opening of the Pixel Arcadia showcase, I was able to retract a finger as Clear River Games revealed they have worked with Square Enix to port the title to modern platforms.

Developed by Quintet, whose works included the ActRaiser duology, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma is the only title that the company made that did not see a US release. Players who sought to experience this title which saw you on a quest to recreate civilization had to either understand Japanese or had access to a display which could display in a 50hz mode. While there were more “dubious” ways to experience the title, it only took three decades for it to be made accessible to players across the globe.

It’s currently unknown what enhancements this port will get, but Clear River Games did reveal that they have recruited artist Kamui Fujiwara (who worked on the original.) to provide new art and feedback on this port.

Terranigma is expected to release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and the Switch platform in early 2027.
