There probably won’t be a billion guns in Borderlands: Dead ECHOs…and that’s ok!

Borderlands might be known for shooting, looting and gun combinations tallying in the billions, but that doesn’t mean the franchise isn’t able to step out of their comfort zone. The franchise has explored other genres and mediums such as episodic choose your own adventure titles, comics, film (They tried…ok?), books and even board games. Now Gearbox is tackling a new medium which leans heavily on one sense…hearing.

Borderlands: Dead ECHOs is a brand new audio drama produced and starring by April Johnson and Joel Watson from the Gearbox narrative team. It stars Watts (Watson) who is a DAHL Echo Operator who has a side hustle as an illicit information broker. His side hustle is gonna be his main hustle when he encounters Junie (Johnson) and strikes up a partnership with this mysterious woman.

While it’s all on an audio medium, that doesn’t mean the duo won’t find themselves in exotic, but familiar locations. In fact the series promises to hit planets such as Pandora and Eden-6 and hopefully they’ll run into some familiar faces or even a vault hunter or two (Claptrap technically was a vault hunter in the pre-sequel).
The first episode of Dead ECHOs debuts today on Borderlands and Gearbox’s YouTube channel as well as all major audio platforms, with new episodes coming out in a weekly cadence. When Borderlands 5 comes up, perhaps you’ll run into a couple of information brokers which you can say you know from Borderlands: Dead ECHOs!
