Pokémon Go kicks off its 11th year with a Times Square takeover!

800+ million players in over 150+ countries have caught over 1 trillion Pokémon (I wonder how many have been “turned” into candy…) are some of the stats that Pokémon Go has shared as the title hit its 10th anniversary this week. As part of the celebration, the game held a livestream which originated from Times Square in New York City which culminated in a raid involving Mega Mewtwo Y where over 1000 trainers took on this legendary artificial Pokémon.

The celebrations don’t stop as the game will be hosting a Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Global which will take place this weekend. This Go Fest will be available for free to all players and will include a Special Research which when completed will offer an encounter with Zeraora, enhanced rates of encountering shiny pokémon and other bonuses. Players in select cities in Asia, Europe, Oceania and North America can participate in community celebrations which offer the following.

  • A Pokémon GO pop-up event with interactive fun.
  • Photo opportunities to capture the memories.
  • Fun activities with your local Community Ambassadors and their communities!
  • Giveaways and exciting prizes, including Pokémon GO pins and prints!*
  • The chance to meet and battle alongside local and visiting Trainers, and Community Ambassadors.
  • Timed Research when you check-in, with rewards like a Pokémon encounter and items!

Full details for these community events can be found on this blog post.

Do you think this title will have the staying power to last another decade? Well we’ll have to see in 2036, but until then go out there, spin some pokéstops and catch some Pokémon!

Pokémon Go is available now on iOS and Android.
