RGG Studio taps Solid Snake himself to handle worldbuilding for Virtua Fighter Crossroads

Summer Game Fest gave fans of Virtua Fighter some official information regarding the latest entry of Virtua Fighter which included the game’s name (Virtua Fighter Crossroads), a release window (2027), a brand new character (Cielo) as well as return of a familiar face (Pai Chan). After the show concluded RGG Studio offered a showcase to give fans more of their upcoming 3D fighter.

Producer/Creative Director Riichiro Yamada, Art Director Ryo Shibasaki, and Battle Director Yosuke Takeda hosted this showcase to give players a glimpse of what to expect from the first new entry of this fighting game in over 20 years.

The first major revelation is that there will be a single player mode which will have the player exploring the fictional region of Vilasapara taking control of quartet of characters in an anthology style storytelling which features a web of intrigue. I know that most fighting game fans expect the story mode to be the most neglected part of a fighting game, but RGG Studio have recruited some heavyweights to ensure that players’ expectations will be subverted. The most well known name is David Hayter, the legendary voice of Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake…while many know him as a voice actor, he is an accomplished actor, screenwriter, director, and producer and he will be responsible for world building for the title. Brad Kane, the writer of Ghost of Tsushima, As Dusk Falls will be the lead writer for the title. RGG Studio veteran Tsuyoshi Furuta is the Scenario Director and coming from Atlus is Shinji Yamamoto.

It looks like RGG Studio is pulling out all the stops to ensure that Virtua Fighter returns to the lips of the fighting game community and they’ve certainly shown they are definitely putting in the work!

Virtua Fighter Crossroads will send players on a new journey when it releases in 2027 likely on PC and consoles.
