When they reached out to me about having me review their Austin office chair in the newly released Horizon color scheme, I was immediately intrigued. I have reviewed my fair share of “gaming chairs” over the years, but never a dedicated office chair. While I have reviewed all of those chairs positively and enjoyed my time with them, spending a few weeks with the Austin chair from Simple has me re-evaluating all of them.
To start with, the Austin is an absolute breeze to assemble. The chair comes with each piece ready to go in the box, and the entire process from unpacking to sitting took all of five minutes. Everything you need for assembly is included and simple to use. This particular model is their brand new Horizon color scheme, which is a beautiful light spring blue.
Once set up, I was immediately impressed with how light the mesh fabric backing is, while also boasting the best back support of any chair I have used at this desk. Having the chair set and ready to go with proper lumbar support without the use of various pillows or positioning has done wonders for my back in only a few short weeks of use. The Austin is supremely comfortable, while also forcing you to sit upright and supported by the nature of the design. Fully adjustable overall height as well as armrest height, positioning, and angles all allow you to fit the chair to whatever your particular needs are.
Living in southern Louisiana means I am hot roughly 360 days out of the year. Thick fabric and leather seem to be the staples for most of the branded “gaming chairs”, while mesh used for the Austin offers both improved comfort and breathability for long sessions at my computer desk.
In the press release, Tyler Askren, the President of Simple, said “The Austin Chair is for anyone who values thoughtful design but isn’t willing to compromise on functionality and comfort. Its understated design and use-case versatility allow it to complement any environment without overwhelming it, and the new Horizon colorway embodies the chair’s ethos completely by making a subtle statement while elevating the space without distractions.”
I am a huge fan of both the form and function of the Horizon colorway of the Austin chair. As someone who has invested a ton of money in a great bed with support for my back, I am frustrated that it took me this long to find a chair that invests similarly in keeping it in good shape.
If you are a gamer who spends all of their time sitting at a branded “gaming chair” and wonders why their back hurts after a long weekend, I strongly encourage you to look into using a proper office chair and checking out the Austin Chair from Simple Furniture. If you are a taller person like I am, they also offer a two-way adjustable headrest, which is sold separately. If you are taller than six feet, I would suggest getting one! I tested mine both with and without the headrest, and I definitely prefer the added support for my neck.
The Austin chair can be purchased here for between $549 and $599 in the original Midnight and Dove colors, as well as the new Horizon colorway
Note: Simple Furniture provided us with an Austin Chair for evaluation purposes.
