The Walking Dead: A New Frontier makes a quick turnaround time for Episode 4, releasing this week dubbed “Thicker than Water”. We get to see a somewhat quick conclusion to the cliffhanger last week, which in turn puts Javier and his brother David in more hot water with the New Frontier group.

Whereas Episode 3 felt very dialogue heavy, in this episode The Walking Dead opens up a bit more, giving you some chances to explore your surroundings, something that I felt was missing from the last episode. There’s also a couple of really solid character moments, and a couple of key decisions that could have some significant ramifications for upcoming events.

As always, it’s hard to talk about these individual chapters without delving into spoilers. But there is a fairly satisfying moment towards the tail end of this chapter, which also somehow manages to make things even worse for Javier and crew than they were before. There’s also a bit of betrayal, which certainly taints some decisions and talking points you’ll encounter towards the end.

Another plus, at least as far as this chapter goes, is that I didn’t run into any weird issues or bugs. This chapter, and the last chapter for that matter, have felt pretty polished overall on PC, which certainly helps. I won’t argue that the engine being used here is getting a little dated, and the overall mechanics of the series are starting to wear a little thin, but the story and characters introduced within A New Frontier still make it worth checking out. “Thicker than Water” is another solid chapter in the series, and helps propel the game towards what I’m sure will be a bummer of a conclusion in the near future.
