As revealed by a number of parties yesterday, Minecraft for the PS4 is complete, has gone live in Europe and has been confirmed for a North American launch by mid-day today — apparently before 12pm PDT/3pm EDT.
By itself, the PS4 Edition will set gamers back $19.99. But for those who own the PS3 version, it’ll only cost a paltry $5 to upgrade and download. It was initially revealed that the PS3 retail disc version wouldn’t be eligible for the discounted upgrade, but since then, Sony and 4J Studios worked out a method to allow it (see the FAQ below or at the PS Blog).
If you have an interest in owning all 3 PlayStation versions of Minecraft (PS3, PS Vita and PS4) you’re better off purchasing the PS3 version for $20, which also entitles you to the PS Vita version for free when it releases, and then pay the $5 to unlock the PS4 version. It doesn’t work the other way around, so just a heads up.
Make sure to stop by the PS Store in a couple of hours to queue up your copy.
