PS3 to PS4 Digital Upgrade Program detailed

As they announced during their Gamescom conference recently, Sony has also been preparing a PS3 to PS4 upgrade program for select cross-generation games. And today they delivered some details on how the upgrade will work.

Gamers who purchase the PS3 version of Assassin?s Creed IV Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch_Dogs and Battlefield 4 (with possibly others coming too) will be eligible to upgrade to the digital PS4 versions for only $9.99. The upgrade requires a code which will be packaged in the PS3 version to be redeemed, and then the original PS3 game Blu-ray to be placed into the PS4, which will then discount the digital PS4 version of the same game down to $9.99 on the PS Store. Those who pick up the digital PS3 version will see the magically discounted PS4 version on the PS Store with no codes or discs required.  You can even redeem the code before purchasing a PS4 and then later on still get the upgrade price.

Head on over to the official PS Blog for even more details or head on over to the PlayStation Digital Upgrade site for step-by-step instructions.
