MLB 2K13’s Perfect Game Challenge begins today

MLB 2K13 may not be the best baseball game on the block (that title goes to MLB 13 The Show obviously), but it’s the only multiplatform baseball game in town, and it has the Perfect Game Challenge.

To coincide with MLB opening day (yay!), MLB 2K13’s Perfect Game Challenge has begun. So you have 1 month to throw a perfect game, per team, and take home a wad of cash in the process and to be eligible for winning even more.

Read on for the details and rules.

2K Sports today announced the start of MLB 2K13?s Perfect Game Challenge. Starting today, April 1, 2013 at 9:00:01 a.m. PDT, players can start their journey towards baseball perfection in MLB 2K13 through the contest?s close on April 30, 2013 at 11:59:59 PDT.

?I never thought a video game could change my life, but 2K Sports? Perfect Game Challenge did just that for me and my family,? said Wade McGilberry, the competition?s first winner back in 2010. ?It was an incredible journey from completing my perfect game to finding out I was the winner, and I?ll never forget the amazing feeling when I was handed the prize money.?

This year?s contest evolution features more ways to win than ever before, as players can compete to win up to 30 $25,000 prize pools, one per MLB team, with a combined prize of $750,000 being divided among the 30 pools. Competitors will need to monitor the Perfect Game Challenge leaderboards to ensure they maintain their ranking as new high scores are added. By using pitchers from different MLB teams, there is no limit on the number of $25,000 team prizes one player can win.

Once the competition window closes on April 30, the top four Overall Leaderboard finalists with top ranked and verified perfect games achieved on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system will compete in a single-elimination tournament during MLB All-Star Week in New York for the $250,000 grand prize.

For the second year in a row, 2K Sports? proprietary algorithm will rank individual perfect games based on difficulty (such as the opposing team?s offensive prowess and selected pitcher?s skill) and degree of perfection (such as number of strikeouts and pitching efficiency). Access to the Perfect Game Challenge mode for eligible players is available on copies of MLB 2K13/NBA 2K13 Combo Pack in addition to stand-alone copies of MLB 2K13.

MLB 2K13 and NBA 2K13/MLB 2K13 Combo Pack are rated E for everyone by the ESRB and are now available at leading retailers.
