SNK makes its presence felt during Nintendo’s latest Direct

While some folks were underwhelmed by Nintendo’s latest Direct which, SNK fans certainly got some news during the program which justifies being excited.

The first was the reveal that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The title will be offered in two ways, a Standard Edition ($19.99) which includes the base game and the Starter Edition ($29.99) which packs in the game’s first 3 seasons of content. Speaking of the game’s post release content, SNK took time during the direct to reveal the characters which will be joining the roster in October and it’s not one but two characters from Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers. Manjiro “Mikey” Sano and Ken “Draken” Ryuguji will make their way to Southtown in October to face its strongest as well as guest characters like Cristiano Ronaldo, Salvatore Gannucci, Ken Masters, Chun Li and Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star.

Oh before someone accuses me of burying the lede, SNK finally gave Mai Shiranui her classic costume back…as a pre-order bonus for the Switch 2 Edition of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Hopefully the publisher will offer players from other platforms an opportunity to acquire this much requested cosmetic.

The second announcement will certainly put a smile on the faces of fans who love SNK’s sprite work. The tough as nails run and gun series Metal Slug is getting a new compilation just in time for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The Metal Slug Ultimate Collection will gather the series’ seven numbered entries, the GBA title Metal Slug Advance and for the very first time a location test version which preceded the original title.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will hit the Nintendo Switch 2 digitally on October 22nd and physically in January 2027, the game is also available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation platform.

Metal Slug Ultimate Collection will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Switch platform sometime in 2027.
