With less than a month before Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve exits the hanger, Bandai Namco has released a brand new video detailing the game’s online mode. In the eight and a half minute clip, we’re introduced to what your life will be like as an online mercenary pilot.
Once you have created a player avatar, you will be sent to an airbase where you and up to 99 other players will be able to congregate and take on modes like Co-Op Assault and Co-Op Warfare. The former features 2 teams of 4 jets as they compete to see who can score the most in a shared battlefield, the latter will pit the 2 teams against each other. Utilizing the right jet will be the key to victory and in AC8 you will have four classes of aircraft to choose from, Attacker, Fighter, Multirole and Electronic Warfare. Furthermore you will find yourself recruited for limited time events such as Scramble and Emergency Sortie. Scramble pits you against a team of NPC fighters and Emergency Sorties will have you and your cohorts taking on giant weapons from various past entries.
So you’ve established you’re an ace pilot, but what are you going to do with all your spoils of war? Go shopping, of course! Buy cosmetics, emotes and more importantly jets. While online mode has a separate save from your campaign, playing online will still help you progress in the Ace Pass (The game’s equivalent of a battle pass). If you happen to miss a pass, fret not as any aircraft offered in these tracks will be available in the in-game store sometime in the future.
Are you ready to get into the cockpit? Well the game is available for pre-order and those who do will be offered a digital copy of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War as well as the F-14A for use in the main game. Those who opt for the Deluxe edition of the game will also get 3 days early access, a cosmetic set as well as a voucher to unlock the premium track of an Ace pass of your choosing.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will take off onto PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
