Per Kojima’s own statement, Sony approached the studio with their intent to cancel the title in mid-June of this year, forcing the auteur game creator scrambling to find a partner in hopes of keeping the game alive. That partner would end up being Xbox, an entity they already have a working relationship with via the development of the horror title OD. Certainly this decision will give those upset with Sony and the PlayStation brand another bullet to put into their chamber as well as allowing the Microsoft faithful another release to heap praise upon Xbox CEO Asha Sharma.
I’m sure this news will be dissected for years to come, hopefully we’ll get the full story from the parties involved, but if it is anything like Kojima’s previous corporate departure…the truth will never truly be revealed.
