If you ask people about RPGs in the SNES/Super Famicom Era, Square and Enix (this is back before they merged into a singular RPG Gestalt) would certainly be top of mind, but that generation’s output was so rich that even companies you didn’t associate with RPGs managed to put out classics. Capcom and Taito were two companies who could be considered these companies. These companies who cut their teeth in the arcades released Breath of Fire and Lufia titles respectively. While there have been many voices clamoring for a re-release of these two beloved franchises, it seems like the Lufia series will be coming back first.
During the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, we learned that Clear River Games is working with Taito to bring the SNES duology of Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and its prequel Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals to modern platforms in 2027. The trailer is short and sweet, but hopefully we will learn what extras will come with the release package which will be dubbed Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga. Also there will be a physical edition, so fans who want to get their “hands” on a copy certainly will be able to do so.
Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga will be coming to PC and consoles in 2027.
