I’m not gonna lie, there’s a bit…ok, a lot of weeb in me and when the trailer for Showa American Story debuted 2 years ago, I was captivated by a world where Japanese culture dominated the US and I would go on a journey to find my sister after my untimely death (but I got better). Unfortunately despite a reveal trailer that included not one, but two earworms, the title quietly missed it’s “2025” release window and not a peep was heard.
However during this year’s Gamescom: Opening Night Live we finally got something new from the game in the form of a character trailer for the game. We’re officially reintroduced to Chigusa Choko, and formally meet Michael Hero, Bubba, Mutsuki Akitora and we see what side activities and trouble she will get into. The clip closes out with an oddly patriotic combat sequence which is unironically timed with this nation’s 250th anniversary.
Even though we’ve been ghosted for a while, this trailer certainly reaffirms my desire to play this game made by a Chinese development team set in a world where America assimilated Japanese culture.
Showa American Story will release on PC and PlayStation, however a release window is yet to be revealed.
