Nintendo Switch system update 4.0 now available

Get ready Nintendo Switch players, there’s a brand new system software update to download right now.

Honestly, the update doesn’t sound all that impressive for a 4.0.0 release, but it does add some nice quality of life features including the ability to pre-purchase select games from the eShop, transfer user profiles/game saves from one device to another and capture video — also for select games. Oh, and best of all, new game profile icons for Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey for some reason.

See the update notes below!

Improvements Included in Version 4.0.0

  • Video capture for select games
  • New profile icons featuring characters from the Super Mario Odyssey game and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game
  • Transfer user profiles and save data to another system
  • Pre-purchase option is available for certain games on Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch

Learn more about these features on the Support site

A previous system update included features that let you:

  • Add friends from your Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Friend Lists to your Nintendo Switch console?s Friend List.
  • Opt to receive notifications for when your friends appear online.*
  • Search for missing controllers.
  • Search for and subscribe to game-specific news content from the News List screen.
  • Increase and decrease system volume via the Quick Settings menu. Headphone volume can also be set to a higher level.
