Eurogamer and Digital Foundry blow the lid off of Xbox Project Scorpio specs

As promised, Eurogamer, via Digital Foundry, had a chance to sit down with Microsoft and the upcoming super powered Xbox hardware (still codenamed Project Scorpio).  As expected, the new piece of kit looks to be very, very capable of cranking out enhanced 4K visuals for Xbox One and backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles.

Scorpio features a higher clocked, custom CPU, bumped up specs for the GPU, a whopping 4GB of additional RAM (GDDR as opposed to DDR3) and quite a bit of increased memory bandwidth.  Of course the guts and the cooling system of the Xbox beast have been redesigned to accommodate the healthy increase of specs, even though Microsoft is still not showing off the console design as of yet (or final name, obviously).

Even with the upgraded Xbox hardware hitting later this year, it’s hard to gauge pricing for Project Scorpio. It could start at $399 like the PS4 Pro, or maybe it’ll land at $100 more, who knows at this point.

Either way, with the Nintendo Switch and PS4 doing quite well at retail, Microsoft is looking to get a bigger piece of market share once again. Will offering a high spec Xbox One reel in new gamers and find a way to get more original first party games in the queue? There’s more questions than answers right now, so we’ll see!
