The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to have GDC 2017 panel on March 1st

Just days before the release of both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo Switch, GDC 2017 will find itself host to a developer panel to discuss the newest Zelda game. The panel will welcome game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, art director Satoru Takizawa, and technical director Takuhiro Dohta who will discuss their new approach to the Zelda series, Breath of the Wild’s development history, and breaking conventions as the game’s launch draws near.

Nintendo is clearly excited to talk about reimagining a Zelda game, as a video of the panel will be available in the following week. Of course, it helps that there’s added publicity surrounding Breath of the Wild’s launch, so we all win in a way.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releases on March 3 for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. Stay tuned for a full review closer to that time and further coverage of GDC.

Full press release below:

Three developers behind The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will host a panel at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The panel, ?Change and Constant ? Breaking Conventions with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,? will feature game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, art director Satoru Takizawa and technical director Takuhiro Dohta. The panel is scheduled to be held 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 1 at the Moscone Center.

For decades, The Legend of Zelda series has been recognized as a trailblazer in game design that has influenced countless other games and developers. The latest game in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U systems, introduces wide-ranging changes that break with many of the traditional conventions of the franchise. The panel will provide an in-depth look at how these convention-breaking changes were implemented.

The panel will take place two days before Nintendo Switch, Nintendo?s new home system, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launch. For those who are not attending GDC, a video of the panel will be available at http://www.gdcvault.com the following week.
