Pok?mon GO gets 80 new Pok?mon, new features this week

Finally… all that waiting, and walking, has paid off. Niantic and The Pok?mon Company this morning revealed that a rather huge update for Pok?mon GO is about ready to go live, with a ton of new Pok?mon to catch and evolve, new game features and gameplay mechanics, Evolution items and berries, additional avatar customization options and more.

The latest batch of 80 pocket monsters to track down will be from Pok?mon Gold and Pok?mon Silver, which would include Pok?mon such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Combined with the Evolution items, which allow trainers to evolve some Pok?mon into those found in the Johto region.

Doesn’t sounds like trading or PvP are included in this update, but hopefully that’s still on the roadmap.

See the trailer below for a look at the new and improved Pok?mon GO.

The World of Pok?mon GO has Expanded!:

Niantic, Inc. and The Pok?mon Company International announced an additional 80 Pok?mon will begin to appear in Pok?mon GO later this week. These include Pok?mon originally discovered in the Johto region from the Pok?mon Gold and Pok?mon Silver video games, including Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Trainers will encounter these Pok?mon ?in the wild? as they embark on adventures and explore their neighborhoods and cities to catch Pok?mon. In addition to Pok?mon that will appear in the game for the first time, the latest update introduces new gameplay mechanics for Trainers to master, including new encounter gameplay, new Evolution items, two new Berries, and expanded outfit and accessory options for their Trainer avatars.

?Today is a momentous occasion for our team here at Niantic which has been hard at work to deliver these additional Pok?mon and build upon the encounter and capture mechanics for our passionate global community of Trainers playing Pok?mon GO,? said John Hanke, founder and Chief Executive Officer, Niantic, Inc. ?Pok?mon GO is a live experience which we?ll be continuing to support and evolve in new and interesting ways for years to come with new gameplay features, in-game and live events, more Pok?mon to discover and much more.?

?With Pok?mon GO, The Pok?mon Company endeavored to create a compelling game based on the concept of encountering and catching Pok?mon in the real world,? said J.C. Smith, Senior Director, Consumer Marketing, The Pok?mon Company International. ?The amazing response to Pok?mon GO by millions of existing and new Pok?mon fans around the world is remarkable. We?re thrilled to keep the adventure going by welcoming these Pok?mon to this engaging new way of experiencing the fun of the Pok?mon brand.?

With the latest Pok?mon GO game update, new Pok?mon evolution options will give players the ability to use new Evolution items to evolve their Pok?mon into ones that were originally discovered in the Johto region. While catching Pok?mon, Trainers can use two new Berries?the Nanab Berry, which slows a Pok?mon?s movements, and the Pinap Berry, which doubles the amount of Candy received if the next catch attempt succeeds. Trainers will also be able to customize their avatar?s appearance with a new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items. Additional items will be available for purchase from the in-game Pok?mon GO shop.
