Battlefield 1 free update includes new Giant?s Shadow map, grenade crossbow, Spectator Mode

EA and DICE are committed to bring a number of free updates to Battlefield 1… yes, even for those who haven’t picked up the pricey Season Pass. The first of these updates include a new map, Giant’s Shadow, along with an explosive new grenade crossbow weapon, the Spectator Mode and more options for the custom game mode.

THere’s a little catch of course. Season Pass subscribers and those who pre-ordered the game will get their hands on the new content today, and everyone else will have to wait a week.

See the trailer below.

Today, DICE announced that the highly anticipated Giant?s Shadow map will be available on December 13 as a part of a new game update for Battlefield 1. The free update will be available for Premium Pass owners and players who pre-ordered Battlefield 1 tomorrow, and for all players on December 20. Overall, Battlefield 1 Premium Pass owners get a two week-head start with all Battlefield 1 expansions including the first expansion pack, They Shall Not Pass, as well as 14 Superior Battlepacks, new weapons, priority in server queues, and more.

In Giant?s Shadow, players can expect fierce combat on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateau-Wassigny railway, try out the new Support class gadget ? the Grenade Crossbow ? and turn the tide with an armored train. Also included in the update is a new Spectator Mode, where players will be able to join a live Battlefield 1 match as an observer, enabling them to switch between first-person and third-person camera views of all players, get a bird?s eye view of the action, or use Free Cam to fly through the map. Additionally, a new Custom Game option, Standard Issue Rifles will be coming to Battlefield 1. In Standard Issue Rifles, all classes are granted access to their faction?s standard issue rifle only, providing players with gameplay inspired by the WWI trenches.
