Pok?mon Sun and Moon are the fastest-selling games in Nintendo history

It’s official… after smashing Nintendo pre-order records, Pok?mon Sun and Moon for the Nintendo 3DS have broken yet another record: “fastest-selling games that Nintendo has ever launched in the Americas”.

In North and South America, in less than 2 weeks, the Nintendo 3DS games have already topped 3.7 million units, which is 85% jump over Pok?mon X and Pok?mon Y in 2013.  Impressive!

We’re sure that the popularity of Pok?mon Go had quite a lot to do with the renewed interest in the game, especially from those who were never fans of the franchise before. At least, that’s what we’ve been hearing.

Read on for the announcement from Nintendo with additional details and stats.

After becoming the most pre-ordered video games in Nintendo history, Pok?mon Sun and Pok?mon Moon ? the latest games in the wildly popular Pok?mon franchise ? have now become the fastest-selling games that Nintendo has ever launched in the Americas. In less than two weeks, Pok?mon Sun and Pok?mon Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold a combined total of 3.7 million units. That?s an 85 percent increase over Pok?mon X and Pok?mon Y ? the previous record holders for Nintendo?s fastest-selling games ? during the same period when those games launched in 2013.

?With these huge sales figures, Pok?mon Sun and Pok?mon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season,? said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America?s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. ?With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pok?mon series are sure to please any player in the family.?

All Pok?mon-related software has sold more than 280 million units* worldwide since launching with the Pok?mon Red Version and Pok?mon Blue Version games in 1996. The Pok?mon Red Version and Pok?mon Blue Version games are both available for download in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Other notable launches in the Pok?mon series include Pok?mon X and Pok?mon Y (15.64 million games sold globally life-to-date), Pok?mon Omega Ruby and Pok?mon Alpha Sapphire (13.18 million games sold globally life-to-date).

In Pok?mon Sun and Pok?mon Moon, Pok?mon Trainers-in-the-making head to the game?s new Alola Region ? a series of tropical islands ? to catch, battle and trade Pok?mon. By discovering new Z-Moves, Pok?mon can unleash powerful attacks in battle. The new Pok? Ride feature allows certain Pok?mon to help people get to places they wouldn?t be able to reach by using human strength alone. In addition to three new partner Pok?mon, players can catch a host of new Pok?mon, as well as the unique regional variants of some familiar favorites.
