Sonic Mania is getting an amazing Collector’s Edition

Whoa… check out the amazingly nostalgic Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition that SEGA revealed today.  If you have fond memories of the original Sega Genesis console (I still own one) and the original Sonic the Hedgehog, then this CE is definitely for you.

Coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC in spring 2017, the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition includes a 12″ Sonic statue standing atop a mini SEGA Genesis console (which is non-working, but plays the “SEEGAA” startup sound), a SEGA Genesis-style cartridge with a gold ring and a metallic collector’s card with a Sonic Mania download code.  This very cool blast from the past will set fans back $69.99.

See the announcement below, and run right over to Amazon to pre-order it right here.

SEGA’s highly anticipated upcoming title Sonic Mania, starring Sonic in a 2D world full of new adventures, is releasing a physical Collector’s Edition. Chock-full of 90’s nostalgia, the Collector’s Edition will include, amongst other notable items, a 12-inch Sonic statue adorning a replicated (non-working) SEGA Genesis console that plays the famous SEEGAA startup audio. The Collector’s Edition is now available for pre-order in North America in stores or online. For specific listings, please check: www.sonicthehedgehog.com/sonicmania. The standard Sonic Mania edition pre-order will come at a later date. Both editions will include a digital code for the game launching Spring 2017.

The Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition will include a deluxe themed collector’s box; a 12-inch Sonic statue on top of a replica SEGA Genesis that plays the SEEGAA startup audio when the power switch is flipped; SEGA cartridge cast with a gold ring inside and a metallic collector’s card with a download code for the actual digital game. The Collector’s Edition will cost $69.99 in the United States and in Canada $89.99 (Canadian dollars) and ships Spring 2017.

“This Collector’s Edition is the perfect blend of past and present Sonic, and contains items we know fans new and old will really appreciate,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer of Sonic Pillar and SVP of SEGA of America. “Sonic is a cultural icon and helped define gaming for a generation of gamers, and continues to do the same today. With Sonic Mania, and this special Collector’s Edition, we’re paying homage to his beginnings and giving fans the ultimate nostalgic experience as we celebrate his 25th anniversary and look ahead at the future of the Sonic brand.”

Sonic Mania is a completely new title and harkens back the iconic Zones and Acts from previous classic Sonic titles by adding in new elements and Easter Eggs that will surprise and delight players. The 2D side-scrolling, pixel-perfect platform game celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope with stunning 60 FPS gameplay.  Players will be able to choose between Sonic, Tails or Knuckles to defeat enemies and bosses they encounter. New to Sonic Mania are the character’s special traits, which include Sonic’s new Drop Dash, Tails’ flight, and Knuckles’ climbing abilities.

Developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with SEGA,Sonic Mania releases digitally Spring 2017 for Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One and PC. Pre-Order the Collector’s Edition now ? available only for a limited time!
