See the new God of War in action

Sony Santa Monica’s new God of War title for the PS4 kicked off the PlayStation E3 2016 press conference in an unexpected way.  The new take on the franchise isn’t a reboot, but it isn’t the typical God of War that we are generally accustomed to.

The gameplay trailer (embedded below) features a bearded, seemingly older Kratos and his young son out hunting in the wilderness when they are attacked by enemies and a huge nasty troll.  The more open-world type environment appears to tie in with a RPG-like experience system, which would be a departure for the franchise.
