Well here it is, the PS4 Universal Media Remote designed and manufactured by PDP and licensed by Sony. It sounds like it’ll work with most of the appropriate media apps, and the PS4 UI itself, and even features the PS button and PS4-specific Share and Options buttons, so it’s fully compatible.
The PS4 Universal Media Remote hits retail on October 27th for $29.99. Check out some product shots, and pre-order it here.

Performance Designed Products (PDP), the #1 third party accessory manufacturer in North America, is proud to announce the release of the Universal Media Remote for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The new remote gives users control of PS4 media apps, movies, music and other content via Bluetooth. The Universal Media Remote for PS4 is officially licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA), and will be available in late October for $29.99 (MSRP).
“Working closely with SCEA helped ensure users have a seamless experience operating PS4 with the remote, right out of the box,” said Chris Richards, CEO of PDP. “The remote makes it even easier to watch video content on PS4, from your favorite Blu-ray movies to shows on Netflix.”
The Universal Media Remote can power PS4 on and off, and controls up to three additional devices including a TV, cable box, and audio receiver. The remote features many of the same buttons as the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller, including the PS button, SHARE button, OPTIONS button, and Action buttons (triangle, circle, cross and square), making it easy to navigate system menus and apps on PS4. At launch, the Universal Media Remote will be fully compatible with the following apps and services on the PS4 system (with more to come later):
- Blu-ray Disc Player
- Crunchyroll
- FUNimation
- HBO GO
- Media Player
- NBA GAME TIME
- Netflix
