Alien: Isolation dev diary shows off clunky, retro sci-fi technology

Sega and Creative Assembly are certainly checking all the boxes with Alien: Isolation so far. The look and feel of the game experience is shaping up to be a super authentic take on the original Alien movie, even down to what they term “lo-fi sci-fi” technology.

The latest Developer Diary video goes in-depth on creating such retro tech on high tech gaming platforms.

To stay faithful to the original source, Alien: Isolation takes a retro look to the future with a design aesthetic which developer Creative Assembly describes as lo-fi sci-fi. It’s clunky, it’s chunky, it’s push-button and analogue. There are no phasers or lasers, and the smartest weapons you find may be tied together with duct tape and string. A world very much of CRT not LCD, Alien: Isolation may be set in the future but it’s very much baked in the past.

Alien: Isolation is scheduled for an October 7th, 2014 release on the PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
