PS4 “top-selling” console, Xbox One “fastest-selling” console for November

In case you missed all the drama last night, NPD released their November videogame sales figures for the month of November last night, and both Sony and Microsoft made sure to chime in. With both next-generation consoles launching last month (seemingly supply-constrained), these figures are sort of a big deal, if only for bragging rights.

And bragging they did!

Sony claimed the top-selling platform of the month (with over a million units), in other words, they sold the most consoles to consumers during November, even topping the mighty Nintendo 3DS (which pushed more than 770K).

Microsoft countered with a “fastest-selling console” metric, which means that the Xbox One sold more per day during the same time-frame even though they sold less overall (apparently just shy of 1 million units). Taking into account that the Xbox One launched a week after the PS4, and like the PS4, nearly every pre-order was sold, you can see how they came up with that result.

Sony also claimed the “biggest console launch ever” milestone also and even put together a little video to celebrate.[youtube_sc url=”8dF_RJz2p9k” width=”600″]

What do these numbers really tell us? That new consoles are still hot business… with the exception of the Wii U unfortunately.

The war has just begun folks.
