Nintendo re-broadcasts Nintendo Direct from E3 with some new footage

Nintendo this morning held a new Nintendo Direct event, which they put together to discuss details for a number of previously announced Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games.

Check out the replay of the video over on the official Nintendo Direct site.

The announcements were proceeded by Nintendo’s declaration: “We will share new details on previously announced games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS launching this year!”  This news came just days before..

I fell asleep.

Something important was going on, probably.  Maybe.  Apparently Nintendo has some news-worthy games coming out, and it’s time for an update on those.  This is what we got, in the order announced:

  • Sonic Lost World (Wii U/3DS) – 10/22
  • Rayman Legends (Wii U/PS3/Xbox 360/PC) – 9/3
  • Art Academy Sketchpad (Wii U eShop) – 8/9
  • Pikmin 3 (Wii U) – out already
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – 8/11, this weekend
  • Pokemon Rumble U (Wii U eShop) – 8/29
  • Summer Carnival ’92 – Recca – available soon
  • NES Donkey Kong (3DS eShop) – 8/15
  • Tecmo Bowl (3DS eShop) – this fall
  • Wario Land 3 (3DS eShop) – 8/29
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 (Wii U/3DS eShop) – sometime eventually
  • Streetpass Relay – available already
  • AC New Leaf Nintendo Zone items – Aug-late Sept.  (pumpkin pie 8/11)
  • Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy (3DS) – 2014
  • Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney – 2014
  • Zelda: A Link Between Worlds – sometime in November
  • Zelda: Windwaker HD – sometime in October

I’d recommend just re-reading that list for the next 27 minutes, but Nintendo did manage to show some gameplay from a few titles in the distant future, including Layton vs. Phoenix Wright.  If you’re into that stuff, it’s probably worth scrubbing around to see what’s they revealed.

The real news is that the Miiverse Plaza has a reskinned Animal Crossing: New Leaf app to visit, full of all the characters you’ve already become frighteningly intimate with in the last two months.  You can also get a Pumpkin Pie item from the Post Office before you go out to buy Mario & Luigi: Dream Team on 8/11.  Also, the Miiverse now supports Pikmin 3 screens, and maybe even someday will incorporate some community support into the upcoming Art Academy Sketchpad, according to Iwata.

The big question on everyone’s mind was if this Nintendo Direct was finally the one to convince them to buy a Wii U, and that’s certainly a question.

Anyone hoping for Nintendo’s ace up their sleeve instead watched them produce an aging rabbit with the same rental tux from earlier this June.  At least the patchwork on it is starting to resemble more ‘golden-era’ eShop titles to tide us over while we wait for something substantial– along with one HD remake.  Is anyone actually counting this as a year where we got two Zelda titles?

Stay tuned this Friday at 7am PST for another Nintendo Direct with detailed The Wonderful 101 spoilers.
