As the Microsoft Conference for E3 comes to a close, Microsoft unveiled a single price point for the new console at $499, with a launch this November. No exact date for November given, but I imagine weโll hear that soon.
The conference was entirely game focused, dropping the TV/DVR replacement element entirely in favor of showcasing upcoming titles. The kicked off with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. We get to see actual gameplay of Snake in action, with full Keifer Sutherland voice acting. This demo showcased the new open-world approach for the fifth entry in the series, along with lots of new mechanics to enhance the world-class stealth gameplay the series is known for.
Next up is Ryse, the ancient Rome action title developed by Crytek. Actual gameplay was shown off, with a demo that involved storming a beach as a Centurion and hacking away at enemy soldiers. A little too QTE heavy for my tastes, but it was certainly a good looking title.
Following that, we got a quick glimpse at a Killer Instinct revival, which was showcased a bit more in a one-on-one match-up that played out on stage, also tying into Microsoftโs continuing SmartGlass initiative.
More Forza 5 was shown-off as well, looking as impressive as ever with stunning car detail on display. Insomniac Games showed off a brand new title that ended up being the most colorful thing on display, a shooter dubbed Sunset Overdrive which seems to be co-op focused.
Minecraft was also announced as heading to Xbox One, which certainly isnโt too surprising given the popularity of the game. Not much info was given over what changes we can expect between this and the current Xbox 360 version of the game, but I imagine this will be a bit more in line with the PC version of the game.
Giving some love to smaller development houses, Capy showed off a new title called Below, an adventuring game that certainly looks comparable in look and sound to their popular Sword & Sorcery mobile title. We also got to see a little more of Remedyโs Quantum Break, which looks to be a detective-type tale set in a world where time stutters and freezes. Iโm certainly intrigued by this one, and I think most Remedy fans will be too.
We also got a surprise announcement for a title called D4 from Swery65. This doesnโt seem to tie into the classic D series in any way, and looks like a unique, cel-shaded title from the Deadly Premonition creator.
Remember Crimson Dragon? Well, itโs still coming, but now for Xbox One. Gameplay was shown off, and it certainly resembles Panzer Dragoon. There were some audio issues during the show that impacted both this and the Battlefield 4 trailer, which was unfortunate considering Iโd love to hear the audio for Crimson Dragon. I expect weโll get a proper trailer, audio and all, very soon.
More Halo is coming! With a quick teaser trailer of a cloak-covered Master Chief in a desert, facing off against a giant ship/robot thing, 343 Industries took to the stage and announced that Halo was indeed coming to Xbox One. Oddly enough nobody was calling the game Halo 5, which might indicate some sort of spin-off for the series.
Capping off the show was the unveiling of the previously leaked TitanFall from Respawn, the development studio comprised of a number of ex-Infinity Ward employees. TitanFall looked pretty impressive, with a great mix of sci-fi mech action and on-foot FPS style gameplay. Game Informer has exclusive coverage on this title in their July issue, which I imagine will be worth seeking out.
Below you can the official PR announcement from Microsoft for the reveal, including some mention of games both seen on stage, and a couple we havenโt heard about yet.
