Warframe bringing free-to-play action to PS4 at launch

Sony is most definitely embracing the free-to-play model moving into the next generation, so it was inevitable that a game like Warframe, currently available for PC/Mac, would be announced for the PlayStation 4.

Digital Extremes today revealed that the PS4 version would be ready to go for the launch of the console this Fall and will be in playable form at the E3 next week. The game will apparently take advantage of the new DualShock 4 controller features and there will also be a Warframe Nexus second screen iOS and Android app as well.

Read on for the announcement.

Warframe (PC) screens:

Digital Extremes announced today that Warframe, the fastest growing Free-to-Play game, is coming to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system this fall. The sci-fi third-person action game that challenges players to release their inner ninja will debut with a playable demo at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), June 11-13th.

?The fact that we?re developing Warframe for the launch of the PS4 this fall is unbelievably awesome,? said Steve Sinclair, creative director at Digital Extremes. ?The irony is not lost on me that our original sci-fi concept for this game was the first ever seen footage for the PS3 generation that never came to fruition until now. Exciting times are ahead with this next gen transition.?

As a co-op focused game that thrives on community and clan-building, Warframe will take full advantage of the social connectivity and community building features coming to the PlayStation 4 system. Some of the features involve the new enhanced DUAL SHOCK 4 controller that offers integrated audio, touch-pad controls and gameplay streaming capabilities. Additionally, 2nd screen functionality will come in the form of an Android and iOS App called Warframe Nexus. This companion app will allow players to perform in-game tasks and provide pertinent real-time game info while away from the PS4 system such as alerts to critical missions, crafting and building inventory, and scheduling gaming sessions with friends just to name a few. Many of these features will be demonstrated during E3.

Players are introduced to Warframe as newly awoken Tenno warriors, thrust into a universe at war and armed with ancient exo-skeletal technology only they can operate. These Warframes bring unimaginable power and skill to the Tenno and provide players with unique offensive and defensive powers to explore and master. Players go solo or band together in squads of 4 to complete co-op based raids to locate ancient artifacts that will help customize and upgrade their Warframe and weapons.

More information on Warframe for the PlayStation 4 system will be revealed in the coming months. In the meantime, visit www.warframe.com to stay up to date on the latest news.
