Super Mario 3D World announced for Wii U [UPDATE: Screens]

While we all knew Nintendo was unveiling a new 3D Mario title for the Wii U today, I don’t think most of us were expecting a direct sequel to the 3DS Super Mario 3D Land. But here we have it with Super Mario 3D World, launching this December on Wii U.

While maybe not the Galaxy follow-up I was hoping for, Super Mario 3D World definitely looks fun. It’s nice to see four player co-op present with the Super Mario Bros. 2 cast as well, with Princess Peach finally returning as a playable character. World design looks great, cat suit Mario seems like a fun addition, and the small boss battle glimpse in the trailer definitely gives me hope this will be an excellent holiday release for the Wii U.
