Disney Infinity brings interactive figures and Play Sets to consoles this June

Disney Interactive Studios today revealed what can best be described as a cross between Skylanders and LittleBigPlanet… except with Disney characters and worlds of course.

Utilizing interactive figures, Play Set pieces and power discs with what they dub the “Disney Infinity Base” accessory, characters and worlds from various Disney studios can be brought to life on the console system of your choosing. The figures and pieces, all of which will be available to purchase at retail of course, will unlock new adventures in the open world-style Disney Infinity game. Presumably, the more items you have or purchase, the more Play Sets become available and the larger the game gets.

So far, characters and Play Sets from Monsters University, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Incredibles have been revealed, along with characters such as Sully, Jack Sparrow and Mr. Incredible.  You can expect most if not all of Disney popular properties will be represented in one way or another.

The items you collect and unlock in the game are stored in a virtual “Toy Box”, which can then be used to create new stories and environments… infinitely.

Disney Infinity is scheduled for a June 2013 release for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U and PC. Mobile and online versions are in development as well.

As players advance through each adventure, they will collect characters, vehicles, upgrades, gadgets and more which they can save to a virtual “Toy Box.”  At any time, players can access their personal “Toy Box” and use the items to create one-of-a-kind Disney adventures featuring any combination of characters, environments and items across all franchises. The possibilities are endless and players are only limited by their imaginations.
