Microsoft to skip gamescom and Tokyo Game Show this year

For whatever reason, Microsoft today announced that they will not be taking part in either gamescom or the Tokyo Games Show this year. I lieu of making an appearance at these big events, the company will be promoting the Xbox 360 and Xbox brand in smaller, more localized events around the world.

This change of strategy may or may not be permanent, but our guess is that it will probably just be a temporary shift.  We’ll see…

Below is Major Nelson’s confirmation of this news.

As you saw at E3, we have a solid line-up of games launching this holiday, along with other entertainment experiences. We?ve changed our approach a little, though. This year, Xbox will be focusing on smaller, more localized promotions and experiences for press, partners, retailers and customers around the world. Which means that as you might have seen on some of the news sites today, we won?t be taking part in gamescom or Tokyo Games Show this year.
