In order to get players pumped for the upcoming expansion to Civilization V dubbed Gods & Kings, Steam is offering the base game free to play for this weekend, starting today 5/24 to Sunday, 5/27. If you’ve slept on this great offering from 2K Games and Firaxis Games, now’s a great time to check out what all the fuss is about.

New York, NY, May 24, 2012 ? 2K Games and Firaxis Games announced today that Sid Meier’s Civilization V is free to play on Steam starting today until Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. PDT. As part of the celebration of the upcoming release of the expansion pack, Sid Meier?s Civilization V: Gods & Kings, the entire Civilization V franchise will be 75% off on Steam this weekend.

Sid Meier?s Civilization V: Gods & Kings can be pre-ordered starting at 1:00 p.m. PDT on Monday, May 28, 2012 and players who choose to take advantage of the free-to-play weekend can continue their quest for world domination and keep their progress intact by purchasing Civ V before Monday, May 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. PDT.
