The late, great Kurt Cobain will officially join the rather large roster of musicians who will make an appearance in GH5. First info and screens.

Remembered as one of the most iconic artists in the history of alternative rock, Kurt Cobain's enduring legacy continues with his video game debut as one of five exclusive in-game artists in Guitar Hero 5. The former lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana will be featured as a playable character, performing two of the band's hit singles from their 1991 genre-defining album Nevermind: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a special, previously unreleased live recording of "Lithium." The band's breakthrough hit and one of the greatest rock songs of all time, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" helped define the 1990s and will speak to a whole new generation in Guitar Hero 5.

And yet again, a new musician has agreed to lend his likeness to the next big Guitar Hero. It's Matt Bellamy from Muse in case you don't recognize him.

Is there anyone who won't be making an appearance in Guitar Hero 5? First shot of Johnny Cash in-game.

A very nice use of Xbox Avatars in a retail game finally. Check out what your creations will look like in game in the latest screens.

Guitar Hero fans will soon be able to take center stage and become the rockstar of the show by playing in-game as their own Xbox Avatars in Guitar Hero 5. When fans take home Guitar Hero 5 on September 1, they'll be able to import their Avatars, choose their instrument and play along with their personalized characters rocking out to any track on the epic 85-song set list. Taking full advantage of the latest technology available from Xbox LIVE, gamers can choose their band mates and mix and match their Xbox Avatars with Guitar Hero favorites like Judy Nails, Axel Steel and Lars Ümlaüt, or even rip it up alongside in-game talent. Xbox Avatars will also get a Guitar Hero makeover in the game's Create-A-Rocker mode, where players can further customize their creations with exclusive Guitar Hero clothing and accessories to ensure they look performance-ready.

Shirley Manson and band screens to go along with Activision's latest GH5 announcement.

The Guitar Hero stage continues to heat up as Shirley Manson, actress and lead singer of the Grammy-nominated alternative rock band Garbage, steps into the spotlight offering her likeness and distinct vocal stylings to this fall's highly anticipated Guitar Hero 5. Manson joins an all-star line up of in-game artists set to appear as playable characters in the game. Guitar Hero 5 boasts 85 songs on-disc including a wide variety of genres from modern, alternative and indie rock to classic anthems and metal, and features Manson belting out "Only Happy When It Rains," the breakthrough single off the band's self-titled debut album, Garbage.

A trio of screenshots of Santana in the game along with the official announcement.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and 11-time Grammy Award winner, Carlos Santana, is set to appear as an exclusive in-game artist in the upcoming Guitar Hero 5. Santana's accomplishments span four decades and more than 40 albums including the self-titled album, Santana, that launched one of the most recognizable Latin-infused classic rock anthems, "No One to Depend On." The live version of the song will be featured in Guitar Hero 5 with Carlos Santana jamming on stage as a playable character.
